Pen and Paper

August 17, 2007 at 4:42 pm (PBBG, browser based, game design, table top)

I know this doesn’t exactly have to deal with web games, but I am wondering what everyones favorite pnp is. I am personally attempting to get my friends to start playing again and I would like to play something other than DND. We may be actually making our own if we can’t find one that suits us, which I would likely share and based at least one web game off :P  Speaking of my web games, my current situation is 3 in design, 2 finished design, 1 in coding, the other on hold. What does your guys plates look like?

The last PNP game I played was using the Mirima Tyalie rules, good luck finding those now. Been a few years since I’ve played any of those though.

I currently have 3 projects in the planning/analysis phase, 1 in development and 1 complete.

I never heard of Mirima Tyalie, but I will look around for it.

Glad to hear ya got a plate full of projects ^_^ It makes me happy inside when I hear others are developing and trying to advance the genre.

btw, I will try to get a serious post out sometime this weekend.

Why do you guys have so many things going at once? My feeling would be that the best way to seriously approach a game is to come up with one concept you really like and put as much effort as you can into it – whether it’s coding, designing the rules, advertising/promoting it, getting testers, refining, etc.

I dunno about Cameron, but I currently have a team of three designers, including myself. One game we finished it’s design about 7 months about but I felt I didn’t have the coding skills to take that one on. About a week about we finished designing our latest one, which I have started coding.

As for the three in design, I am designing a game for someone else to develop, and the other two designers are working on projects that I will code (hopefully by then I have help) and release under our blanket name openbracket.

I am flying solo on my projects. I currently only have one game I am writing the actual code for, aside from the completed game I have to do bug fixes for. I use the other games in the design phase as a break from coding. Sure there is a lot of work to do with pushing a game but I would rather not have all my eggs in one basket, that is just how I roll. ;)

Well, the only PNP game I’m currently playing is being made by a friend of mine. It’s pretty rad but he’s being somewhat paranoid as far as the release of details because he hopes to publish eventually.

Besides that, while I’m pretty familiar with the D&D ruleset, and have the books and that, I haven’t actually played a campaign of it. I’ve played D20 modern which was pretty good. I’ve also played Darwin’s World, which is like D20 Post apocalyptic, it was pretty good too…
